OPINIONS OF LEGAL PROFESSIONALS REGARDING ORGAN TRANSPLANTATION

WOS: 000303558300007Objective: The aim of this study is to compile and evaluate the views of the professionals working in the legal area, which is an important social association, regarding the organ transplantation. Material and Method: A survey, consisting of 4 questions regarding the differing ethical dimensions of the different types of organ transplant within the concept of the study, were presented to 154 lawyers, 14 judges, 15 public prosecutors, 3 notary publics, and 1 university instructor, who professed in Mersin, with the cooperation of the Mersin Bar Association; and then the findings obtained from this survey were statistically analyzed. Results: The ratio of the participants who thought that a consent is necessary for taking organ from the cadaver found to be as 58.82%; the ratio of the participants who stated that they would be willing to give their kidneys to their relatives was 75.94%; the ratio of the participants who refused the idea of paying some fee to the organ donors was 73.80%; and the ratio of the participants who consented to being a cadaver donor was 78.61%.
