Obesity: Evaluation, controlling and methods of prevention [Obezi·te: Degerlendirilmesi, denetimi ve tedavi yöntemleri]

In recent years, obesity that has become a global problem, is defined as a disease with it's comorbidities. In obesity, body weight for height exceeds the desirable level because of the increased proportion of body fat mass to body lean mass. Obesity is not a single clinic disorder, but it is a complex chronic illness resulting from the interplay among genetic, environmental factors and lifestyle. It is related to many diseases like heart disease diabetes mellitus, and many types of cancer. According to the World Health Organizatin (WHO); "Obesity is a complex condition, one with serious social and psychological manifestations that affects virtually all ages and socio-economic groups, and threatens to overtake developed and developing countries." Also data about the healthcare costs show that obesity needs an expensive health service, so it is important to develop effective approaches to both treat and prevent the onset of obesity and its associated health-related conditions. International and national attempts have been done to fight against the obesity. Many countries on the world have tried to benefit individuals from the advantages of these efforts, different strategies and activity plans. In the current review, obesity, its evaluation, methods of controlling, and prevention of obesity and related studies were attempted to be summarized
