A review of perceptions related to tolerance value of 4th grade students in elementary school: A phenomenological study [I'lkokul 4. sinif öğrenci'leri'ni'n hoşgörü değeri' i'le i'lgi'li' algilarinin i'ncelenmesi': Fenomenoloji'k bi'r çalişma]

Object of this study is to show elementary school's 4th grade students' perceptions relating to tolerance. In the present study, phenomenology, which is one of qualitative research patterns, was used. The group under study consisted of 10 students studying at 4th grade of elementary school in a city taking place in Eastern Anatolian Region during the academic year of 2015-2016. Convenience sampling method, which is one of purposive sampling methods, was used in the study. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview form in the study. Descriptive analysis, which is one of qualitative data analyses, was used in data analyzing. As a result of the study, it was seen that male and female students mostly perceive tolerance as being helpful. When the students were asked why one should be tolerant, most of the students responded as for being a good person. Furthermore, the students reported that one should be tolerant to be happy, to cooperate, to be respectful, to avoid heartbreaking, to avoid upsetting people and to prevent the world from being a bad place. Most of the students stated that lack of tolerance causes quarrels and fight. Furthermore, most of the students stated that one should be helpful to be tolerant. © 2018 T.C. Milli Egitim Bakanligi
