An investigation of the prevalence of rotavirus in children with diarrhea using ELISA and latex agglutination method

Mayıs 1993-Ocak 1995 tarihleri arasındaki sürede ELISA ve lateks agiutinasyon (LA) yöntemi ile beş yaşın altındaki ishalli 152 çocuğun dışkı örneklerinde Rotavirus (RV) antijeni araştırıldı. Örneklerin 70'i kız, 82'si erkek çocuklara aitti. ELISA ile % 20.39 (31/152), LA ile % 25.65 (39/152) oranında pozitiflik elde edildi. ELISA ile en yüksek pozitiflik kış aylarında (% 29.41), en düşük pozitiflik ise yaz aylarında (% 12.5) saptandı. ELISA ve LA ile 152 olgunun 130 (% 85.5)'unda uyumlu (24 olguda her ikisiyle pozitif, 106 olguda da her ikisiyle negatif), 22 (% 14.5)'sinde ise uyumsuz (yedisinde salt ELISA, 15'inde ise salt LA ile pozitif) sonuç elde edildi.During the period from May 1993 to January 1995, the presence of Rotavirus (RV) antigen was investigated in the feces of 152 children with diarrhea using ELISA and latex agglutination (LA) method. Seventy of samples were from girls and 82 from boys. A positivity of 20.39 % (31/152) was obtained with ELISA and 25.65 (39/152) with LA. The highest positivity, using ELISA, occurred during the winter months (29.41 %) and the lowest positivity during tne summer months (12.5 %). In ELISA ve LA tests, out of 152 cases, 130 (85.5 %) gave the same results (24 cases positive in both tests and 106 cases negative in both) and 22 (14.5 %) did not give the same results (seven positive with ELISA and 15 only positive with LA)
