Various synthetic meshs are being used in the repair of abdominal wall defects. For this purpose, we formed an abdominal wall defects in animals and compared the effects of single-layer vicryl, prolene meshs, and double-layer vicryl + prolene meshs from biomechanical tests, and histologic responses. In this study, it was obtained that vicryl and vicryl + prolene meshs presented least local tissue reaction, and adhesions. Prolene and vicryl + prolene meshs were defected superior to vicryl graft with regard to biomechanical results. We didn't find any difference connective tissue formation in all the groups. We believe that double-layer vicryl + prolene meshs will be safely used in clinical practice
