Information Utilization and Risk Practices of People Living with HIV/AIDS in South-West, Nigeria

People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) attending clinics accessed information from different sources within and outside the hospital to guide them from infecting close friends and family members. There was apparent reasons to believe that PLWHA still engaged in risk practices especially sexually related ones. The study therefore wished to establish level of risk related information utilization among PLWHA, as well as those risk practices they engaged in. The study adopted survey research design of correlational type. The target population was 532,403 PLWHA in the selected four health institutions. Pooled standard error of proportion was used to determine 412 PLWHA and critical incident technique was used to select the participants. Self-administered questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The response rate was 97% The finding reveals that the mean information use of PLWHA was 23.45 (78.12%), SD=5.8 and that of risk practices was 6.0 (22.22%), SD=5.8. The correlation coefficient obtained was -0.257 with a p\u3c 0.05. The concluded that the more the information use, the less the risk practice.
