Assessment of Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio and Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio in Patients with Dry Eye Disease

Purpose: To evaluate the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) levels in patients with dry eye disease (DED). Methods: The white blood cell, neutrophil, platelet, and lymphocyte counts were performed in 78 dry eye patients and 60 controls. The NLR was calculated by dividing neutrophil count by lymphocyte count and the PLR was calculated by dividing platelet count by lymphocyte count. Results: The mean age was 53.4 ± 3.8 years in the DED group and 52.7 ± 3.4 years in the control group. The mean NLR was 2.6 ± 1.2 and the mean PLR was 138.4 ± 62.6 in the DED group and the mean NLR was 1.84 ± 0.5 and the mean PLR was 118.5 ± 64.7 in the control group. A significant difference was found in the NLR and PLR between the DED and the controls (p = 0.032 and p = 0.026, respectively). Conclusion: The NLR and PLR values were found higher in patients with dry eye than in healthy subjects. ©, © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC
