The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part presents a general and historical introduction to the subject and a critical review of previous theoretical investigations on thick-walled cylinders under internal fluid pressure and under interference fit pressure. Part II contains the author's experimental work on cylinders under internal fluid pressure. A review of previous experiments is also included. Thirdly. the author presents his theoretical and experimental work on ring and plug interference fit assemblies. This section is also proceeded by a review of work performed by other experimenters in the field.
