Backgrounds: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is still one of the health problems in Indonesia and in the world. Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease in which the body's resistance to insulin is a cause of controlled control. Hyperglycemia is involved in the formation of free radicals resulting in an imbalance between protective antioxidants and increased production of free radicals. If endogenous antioxidants are inadequate, the body needs antioxidants from the outside (exogenous). One exogenous antioxidant is beta carotene.
