This course offers a survey of the main historical events political ideologies and economic upheavals which shaped mainly Europe but also other regions of the world in the 20th Century. In order to understand these issues the course explores the causes that lead to major turning points such as the First and the Second World War or the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia; analyses the effects of the post war peace settlements on the peoples of Europe the Middle East and Asia and reveals the origins developments and demise of the Cold War which divided the world into two antagonistic spheres of influence for 45 years.
