Stress history influences the behavior and strength of soils. Stress anisotropy of actual soils in natural conditions produces an arrange of grains, which modifies mechanical properties such as stiffness and shear strength. Laboratory tests were carried out to study the relationship between stress anisotropy and shear parameters of sands. Clean sand with controlled grain size distribution and relative density was used to conform each specimen, which was put under a predetermined effective stress combination. Finally, each specimen was conducted to failure, in order to obtain the shear strenght parameters.
