International audienceRecent archaeological excavations, conducted by INRAP, provide new data concerning the nature and age of the filling deposits on the paleo-poljé of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume (Var, France). Dated from the Upper Pleistocene, the last stages of sedimentation are characterized by an accumulation of thick lacustrine chalk with exceptional paleo-ecological potential (pollen, entomofauna, malacofauna, ostracofauna, carporests, etc.). This type of sedimentary recording, unique in Provence, is perfect for conducting a high-resolution multi-proxy paleoenvironmental study.
