The Veladero hill is a well-exposed upper crustal block located between the basement of Sierra de Umango (Western Sierras Pampeanas), and the Devonian - Carboniferous sedimentary sequence of Precordillera, at western Argentina. The hill is formed by schists, metaluminous granitoids and a subalkaline peraluminous andesite studied in this work. The country rocks are schists with mineralogy typically developed during a thermal event (e.g., cordierite, andalusite, biotite). The magmatic assemblage of the peraluminous andesite consists of K-feldspar + plagioclase + quartz + biotite + cordierite, with zircon, monazite, and oxides as accessory minerals.
