This paper aims to underline the crucial role played by Greek and Latin language and, more in general, by Humanities in the Italian school system. With the study of philosophy, the study of literature and the study of the past, which develop self-awareness, depth of thought and historical reasoning, the positive practice of Greek and Latin language broadens the combinatory ability, the understanding of the ancient world and its highest intellectual heritage. In order to achieve the best results, the study of Greek and Latin language requires time and constant exercise, as shown by the paideutic tradition. The study of Greek and Latin language should be encouraged through the direct contact with the ancient world from a young age
