The current memory consolidation models suggest that the various brain rhythms (i.e. neocortical slow-waves, hippocampal sharp-wave ripples (SWRs) and thalamocortical spindles) occurring throughout the mammalian brain during sleep form an oscillatory network thought to be involved in the processing of information acquired during wakefulness.
