In the thesis, the design and development of a cloud-based application able to control an isolated microgrid system is illustrated. The studied microgrid includes photovoltaic panels, diesel generator, and batteries as energy units. The service features are enriched by introducing the ability to run simulations in real-time aiming for failure detection and strategy performance comparison. The problem of defining the control strategy to follow during the microgrid operation is addressed proposing a method to arrive at the definition of it. The objective is to define a strategy aiming for the full exploitation of the solar resource and produce economical and energetic performances improvements.
