DescriptionThis Master Thesis presents the design, control and power losses evaluation of a Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC). This converter has improved the competitive position of VSC-HVDC over LCC-HVDC due to its black-start capability, independent control of active and reactive power, and quality output waveform, and thereby allowing a reduction in the size and the cost of the output lters. Lower losses also make it very suitable for grid integration of renewable energy sources. The aim of this work is to demonstrate the e ciency and the performance of this converter by means of time domain simulations developed in PLECSR
