Book Review: Distribution revolution: Conversations about the digital future of film and television by Michael Curtin, Jennifer Holt, and Kevin Sanson, eds

Distribution Revolution collects in-depth interviews with 17 key Hollywood figures to offer insight on the state of thinking about and strategies for digital distribution of video. The collection includes the perspectives of those working for the studios, new distribution services, and creatives. The editors, who helmed the innovative, but sadly now defunct Media Industries Project at the University of California, Santa Barbara, from 2009 to 2015, are mainly visible in the introductory chapter that explains the shifting industrial conditions about which the interviewees reflect. They also provide brief analytical introductions to each section of interviews that identify key topics and statements from interviewees in a way that offers valuable synthesis. Although the collection largely allows individuals at the forefront of changing practices to speak for themselves, Curtin, Holt, and Sanson lead them through carefully crafted questions and assembled an insightful and diverse roster of interviewees.
