There is increasing interest in the insula as a key region of neuropathology in schizophrenia. Several voxel-based meta-analyses of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies have highlighted insula grey matter deficits in people with schizophrenia. However, volumetric studies targeting insula grey matter volume, to date, do not give a clear picture of insula morphometry.
