Student-centred learning is not a new concept, but there has been limited progress made towards the adoption of student-centred approaches in the higher education sector. Universities are under increasing pressure to adopt more student-centred approaches to better meet the increasingly diverse needs of students. Today, the lecture continues to reign supreme as the pervasive method of instruction within universities. This paper reviews the scholarly literature on student-centred learning to establish what is currently known about student-centred approaches in higher education contexts.
