A taxonomic study of the genus Amblyomma (Acarina: Ixodidae) in North and Central America has been conducted, in which the genus, as currently interpreted, is divided into three genera, Amblyomma Koch, 1844, Haemalastor Koch, 1844 (resurrected), and a new genus. Also, species-groups (not of nomenclatural standing) are proposed within these genera. The North and Central American species of these genera are: Amblyomma americanum (Linnaeus, 1758), A. auriculare (Conil, 1878), Amblyomma cajennense (Fabricus, 1787), A. calcaratum Neumann, 1899, A. coelebs Neumann, 1899, A. imitator Kohls, 1958, A. inornatum (Banks, 1909), A. maculatum Koch, 1844, A. mantiquirense Aragao, 1908, A. oblongoguttatum Koch, 1844, A. ovale Koch, 1844, A. nodosum Neuman...
