Information of genetic diseases and genetic counseling of midwifery and nursing students

Amaç: Çalışmanın amacı ebelik ve hemşirelik öğrencilerinin genetik hastalık ve genetik danışmanlık bilgi durumlarını incelemektir. Yöntem: Bu çalışma kesitsel bir çalışma olup, çalışma yeri Türkiyedeki üniversitelerin hemşirelik ve ebelik bölümleri bulunan sağlık yüksekokullarıdır. Örnek seçiminde küme örnekleme yönteminden yararlanılmıştır. Farklı yüksekokullardan gelen 418 anketin tümü çalışmaya katılmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesi SPSS 10.0 programında yapılmıştır. Sayı ve yüzde dağılımları ve ki-kare analiz testleri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin yaş ortalamasının 22,31,3, %48,3ü ebelik, %51,7sinin hemşirelik öğrencisi olduğu, %21,3ünün anne babalarının akraba olduğu saptanmıştır. Çalışmamızda öğrencilerin %56,5i genetik bilgilerinin yetersiz olduğunu belirtmişlerdir. Öğrenciler, genetik konusundaki bilgileri üniversite eğitimleri sırasında aldıklarını ifade etmişlerdir (%97,1). Bu öğrencilerin %64,4ü genetik bilgilerini Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları dersinden öğrendiğini ve bunun da yetersiz olduğunu belirtmişlerdir. Sonuç: Genetik hastalıklar, önlem programları ve son günlerde önemi ve sayısı giderek artan genetik testleri ile ilgili bilgilerin ebelik ve hemşirelik bölümü dersleri içerisine konması, okullarda bu konuda konferans ve seminerlerin verilmesi önerilebilir.Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the information of genetic diseases and genetic counseling of midwifery and nursing students. Materials and methods: When this is a cross- sectional study, the place of this study is the universities in Turkey where there are the departments of midwifery and nursing schools. Group exemplory method is used in sample selection. 418 inquiries coming from different schools are included in the study. The data evalution is done in SPSS 10.0 program. Numeral and rational dispersion and chi-square analysing tests are used in this study. Findings: It is found out that the avarage age of the students take place in this study is 22.3±1,3, 48.3% midfery, 51.7% nursery and 21.3% of the students parents are relative. It is determined that 56.5% of the students genetic information is insufficient. 97.1% of the students expressed that they had the information about genetic at the University. 64.4% of the students stated that they got the genetic information from the lesson The Child Health and Diseases and added that it was also insufficient. Results: The information about genetic diseases, the ways of preventing them and the genetic tests which are becoming more important lately can be studied in midwifery and nursery schools and some conferences and seminars can be proposed at schools
