In the spirit of promoting robust workshop discussion, the paperseeks to:1) Acquaint National Park Service (NPS) staff with Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS) and ITS applications, and2) Acquaint transportation community participants with NPS transportation-relatedissues and concerns that might be amenable to ITS solutions.The paper introduces NPS transportation issues and concerns; provides a brief overview ofrelevant ITS technologies and applications; discusses the state of ITS within national parks;identifies the potential benefits of ITS technologies; and lays the groundwork for discussionregarding ITS strategies for the NPS by posing several questions to be addressed during theworkshop
