Drilled shafts can accommodate a wider range of sizes, and noise and vibrationduring construction are significantly reduced. On the other hand, when installing driven piles, alarge amount of data is collected which gives engineers greater knowledge of the soil and rockthat the pile is being set in. This allows them to adjust designs to create a more secure foundation.Obtaining this information when using drilled shafts is more complicated and expensive. Becausestructure and strength of bearing layers vary so much in Florida, increased knowledge of thematerial that will support a drilled shaft, acquired as part of the drilling process, would be veryhelpful for designers and construction.
