It presents a rare opportunity to study the effects of a major transportation improvement on travel behavior and the related effects of these travel changes on land use and economic activity. A major aspect of this study is to analyze the differing impacts of different segments of the Metrorail system as it is phased into full operation. The study has been supported by funding from the Urban Mass Transportation Administration of the United States Department of Transportation.138
