Quantification of the clarity and color contrast of biodiesel and glycerin products of the biodiesel chemical reaction using different types of vegetable oil was performed, with canola oil being selected as the best combination of contrast and cost-effectiveness. A laboratory exercise appropriate for upper-division undergraduate students and first-year graduate students has been developed. A short video was prepared, presenting industrial-scale biodiesel operations and intended for both student courses and general public education.
