The traditional butt jointhas typically been the method used in Connecticut. These joints havebeen reportedly opening up creating a longitudinal crack at the jointthus contributing significantly to the premature failure of the wearingsurface. It has been widely speculated that alternative longitudinaljoint construction methods could be employed to reduce the rate atwhich joints fail. Here, the Notched Wedge Joint is investigated alongwith the traditionally used butt joint for comparison purposes. Tworesurfacing projects were constructed in Connecticut during the 2006paving season that utilized the notched wedge joint constructionmethod. These projects were investigated as to their nuclear densityand volumetric density from cut cores along the longitudinal joints.Also investigated during the 2006 construction season were severalresurfacing projects which utilized the traditional butt joint
