A classification system was designed which included assessment of the client's adaptability to inner conflict/stress, assessment of the forces affecting the client regarding drinking from his sociocultural environment, and the severity of the client's problem with alcohol. Using the classification system, a set of STR objectives are identified for a client. These objectives represent desirable changes in the client's behavior and the impact of his sociocultural environment. STR programs are recommended which should help a DWI to reach these objectives. These programs include some elements of treatment modalities which have been shown to be effective and appear relevant for use with DWIs. Research, development, and evaluation needs for continued work in this area are described. /Abstract from report summary page/129
