This report provides an update to the previous (1992) NHTSA ITS Plan, which described \ue2\u20ac\u153the scope and nature of NHTSA\ue2\u20ac\u2122s anticipated efforts in IVHS safety issues during the next 5 years\ue2\u20ac?. The report has two major sections. The first details the progress made to date against the objectives of the previous ITS plan. The second section discusses the NHTSA ITS Strategic Plan for fiscal years 1997-2002, including an assessment of the state of ITS safety-related collision avoidance systems development, testing, and deployment potential
