The current public interest in freight transportation policy creates an opportunity to develop a shared vision of the future needs of international intermodal freight transportation in the U.S. The federal government can impact this vision by taking action in the following areas: provide infrastructure funding to support efficiency and global competitiveness; support regional and corridor efforts; understand the freight sector and develop a shared vision of technology benefits; lead transportation technology efforts of federal agencies, and maintain commitment to open ITS architecture
