Osteoporosis remains one of the leading causes of morbidity particularly among postmenopausal women. Currently dietary guidelines advocate for adherence to a plant-based diet, as this has been associated with many health benefits, partly due to the abundance of phytoestrogens. Studies of phytoestrogens have primarily focused on the ability of soy isoflavones to prevent several hormone related diseases, particularly postmenopausal bone loss.
