Hospitals are typically considered a place of healing and safety not one of violence. However, in a setting that traditionally takes many steps to prevent harm to its customers, it is the customers who are in turn perpetuating violence against those tasked with caring for them. Violence against healthcare workers is a significant problem in the United States and one that is often underreported, inadequately studied, and lacks preparatory training. This paper will examine the rates of violence against healthcare workers in order to make those in the profession aware of this relatively common problem. Potential workplace modifications and preventative practices will also be discussed
