An input-output model for the Texas economy with emphasis on agriculture

The principal goal of planners and decision makers concerned with the economic development of Texas is to increase the level of economic activity, particularly total income and employment. In order to increase economic activity, it is necessary to evaluate the potentials of different sectors as the means of doing so. This study considers the potential direct and indirect effects that might result from induced changes in output, income, and employment for different sectors of the Texas economy. It also traces the repercussions of changes in a particular sector on other sectors, on the Texas economy as a whole, and outside the Texas economy. The study was designed to emphasize agriculture. Consequently, the agricultural sectors were disaggregated into as much detail as possible. Out of the 31 endogenous sectors in the model, there are 10 agricultural product producing sectors and 8 agricultural product processing sectors. This model for the Texas economy was based on the latest available national input-output model developed for 1963.
