An estimate of furrow roughness is obtained from field data. A procedure for determining infiltration rates from measurements of surface storage and irrigation stream advance is proposed for the case for which the cumulative infiltration is described by the Kostakov-Lewis equation. Design curves providing estimates of cutback flow rates for preventing tailwater losses are presented. Sample problems illustrate how these relationships can be utilized to obtain a more efficient use of irrigation water
