The residual stresses generated during the welding process cause distortions that are focus of industry attention. This problem is a direct cause of the thermal cycle caused by an intense and localized heat source for material melting, which causes inhomogeneous expansions and contractions between the weld bead and the base material. Being aware of these effects caused by thermal cycles guarantees an advantage in their development and execution. In this work is developed the computational thermal analysis of multipass welding of ASTM A131 marine steel, using Gaussian heat source and the birth and death method to represent the deposition of material.
