The current international dialogue on the meaning and interpretation of Vatican II is strongly determined by the dialectic continuity-discontinuity. That the debate has been focuses within this perspective and categories represents a major limitation. However, it provides an opportunity to address the question of its epochal significance within a long term perspective.
