What are the theoretical implications of my title? How easily can we translate cultures of 'travel' together with 'diaspora'? What ‐ exactly ‐ does 'diaspora' mean and how does it relate to ‐ or negate ‐ ideas of 'travel'? Of origins, home and belonging, journeys and returnings? While our interest in travel and diasporic cultures is increasing in the arts and humanities, we still seem to separate the two terms, even while our definitions are ‐ appropriately enough ‐ fluid. James Clifford refers to them as 'translation terms', to work and 'overwork', strategically, adaptively, contingently.
