A total of 24 right handed female subjects were tested on a verbal dichotic listening task. Subjects heard pairs of stop consonant-vowel (CV) syllables under 4 conditions: (a) free attention and report at least 1 item; (b) equally divided attention and report both items presented; (c) attend to the right ear and report only the item heard at that ear; (d) attend to the left ear and report only the item presented to that ear. The main results were as follows: (1) The right ear advantage (REA) was more significant for (a) and (b) than for (c) and (d); (2) About 83% of the subjects exhibited REAs; (3) Individuals who exhibited a right-ear effect under (c) and (d) also exhibited a right-ear effect in (a) and (b)
