Capsaicin Extract of Bird's Eye Chilli as an inhibitor of the growth of the oral pathogen Mutans streptococci and the applying in prevention for Dental caries.

Nowadays, there are many of general non-communicable diseases in the countryside of Thailand that need to be concerned. We focus on the well known non-communicablediseases “Dental caries” from oral pathogen Streptococcus mutans. From the literaturereview, we found that the Capsaicin, extract of Bird’s Eye Chilli can be a good antibiotic forseveral types of microorganism. And the capsaicin is such a component that found in Chilliadded in many Thai foods. So we predict that the Streptococcus mutans could be inhibitedby Capsaicin too. Because we think it will be good if something that we eat everyday caninhibit many types of bad microorganism in our body, we do the scientific research inheadline “Capsaicin Extract of Bird's Eye Chilli as an inhibitor of the growth of the oralpathogen Mutans streptococci” proving our hypothesis that the capsaicin, extract of Bird'sEye Chilli can inhibit growth of oral pathogen Streptococcus mutans. Evidence from the experiments, capsaicin was tested in disk diffusion method andthe minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) analyzing method of both the crude extractcapsaicin from Bird's Eye Chilli and pure capsaicin. The result MIC of the crude extractconstant is 75 mg/ml and the MIC of pure Capsaicin is 140 µg/ml, so it can be concludedthat crude extract Capsaicin has an abilities in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus mutanswith the concentration 75 mg / ml. As the matter of fact, we plan to do the research poll insome countryside of Thailand that might confirm our theory, people who like spicy food orChilli may have a lower risk of the dental caries than the others. In addition, we plan to apply more in the term of “Prevention” to help people incountryside of Nakhon Ratchasima to decrease a number of patients, if any
