In approximately 15–20% of patients qualified for transcatheteraortic valve implantation (TAVI), transfemoral access (TF) is notavailable. Of the alternative vascular accesses, a transcarotidaccess (TC) through the common carotid artery is increasinglyused. It requires careful qualification based on imaging diagnosticsincluding multi-slice computed tomography of the heart,aorta and carotid arteries and magnetic resonance of the brain.Current observational studies and meta-analyzes indicate thatTC TAVI is a safe procedure.
