This paper provides the framework for a new concept of operations for displays and controls. The current state of the art on the International Space Station (ISS) and the problem identified is that there are over 80 computers and over 3,000 distinct user interfaces. This results in an inefficient and overly complicated system that requires more crew training, maintenance, and higher rates of redundancy, mass, volume, and power consumption. In space, all resources are valuable, including crew time. The proposed concept of operations (ConOps) offers a simpler, streamlined solution.
