Modeling of combustion systems can involve the computation of many distinctly different parameters, including flow, mixing, chemical kinetics, equilibrium chemistry, thermodynamic properties and heat transfer. This leads to a wide variety of models of different sophistication and application. As reported in the papers in this session, some models are used to simulate and study the performance of specific devices (lime kilns, boilers, immersion tube heaters), some shed light on the physics of combustion devices (such as mixing in burners and furnaces), and some can calculate important information (flame temperatures, chemical equilibrium composition, etc.). These papers reflect the variety of available models and indicate they have widesprea...
