Life on K Ranch from the Vernal Express September 1, 1948-the K Ranch, so called from the cattle brand, came into existence officially in 1898 when Charles Popper of New York received a deed from the government on slightly more than 75 acres. He lived on the land since 1880. He not only raised cattle by bred horses and maintained a race trac to train the horses he sold. The K Ranch was the only place between Jensen and Elk Springs, Colorado where there was hay. It consequently became a stop over for those who were traveling through.
