UteThis article provides an account of Major Alfred L. Hough's 1879 trip to Ute territory following the Meeker Massacre. Hough describes a council meeting with the Southern Utes, during which the Southern Utes expressed remorse for what the Northern Utes had done during the Meeker Massacre. The Southern Utes object to the presence of troops, but General Hatch refuses to remove them until he apprehends the Northern Utes responsible for the Meeker Massacre.
