When Sandy Beveridge challenged students in her course on Physical Education for Elementary School Teachers to learn to make some inexpensive play equipment, the College of Health class delivered, literally and figuratively. They fashioned hula hoops from flexible sprinkler pipes, made floor hockey sticks with rubber- tipped aluminum rods, and brought these and other handmade physical education equipment to Salt Lake's Bennion Elementary School gymnasium, where they gave the children a few pointers about their use.
