Volume5/2004_July27July 27, 2004 PULSE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER Walter Stevens, Longtime Med School Leader, Dies Walter Stevens, Ph.D., former dean of the medical school and vice president for health sciences at the University of Utah, died Thursday, July 15, at his home in Salt Lake City, of Alzheimer's disease. He was 70. A memorial service was held last week in the Huntsman Cancer Institute Walter Stevens Auditorium. Stevens held top leadership posts at the Health Sciences Center for more than 15 years. He was named dean of the medical school in 1993, stepping down in 1996 to return to full-time teaching and research in the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy, where he remained active until his health declined.
