September 17,1992 Environmental Services Celebrates National Housekeepers' Week Environmental Services employ-ees are celebrating Environmental Services Week, in honor of the American Medical Association's National Housekeepers' Week. The event is observed each year during the second full week of September to recognize housekeeping staffs in business, industrial and institutional settings. ES employees will receive a T- shirt designed by Grant Steffey, storeroom manager for Environmental Services. In addition, a party for the employees was provided by Director Abe Bakhsheshy, Ph. D. " We feel that our employees are the backbone of this institution," said Bakhsheshy. " They are hard working, and they have a type of team spirit among them. " It is hard to vacuum for eight hours a day, or empty garbage cans and make beds, but our employees take their jobs very seriously and work with a sense of enthusiasm and pride. I am very proud of the work they do to make University Medical Center a cleaner, safer and more beautiful place for patients, visitors and employees." University Hospital's main lobby will be a warmer, friendlier place this winter, thanks to the installation of a new revolving door. The revolving door will be " air-locked"-- regardless of the door's position, there is no opening to the outside. The door area itself will be heated. According to L. David Larsen, associate administrator, general services, the cost of the project will be recovered from heat savings within three to four years. The emergency doors on each side of the existing sliding doors will be used as hospital entries during the construction project, tentatively scheduled for completion by Nov. 1. The existing doors will be retained, providing a waiting area, Larsen said. The new door will make it necessary to relocate the Trevor Southey sculpture, " Healing", and the bronze donor walls to a new spot outdoors, just east of the hospital entrance. Southey has been working with hospital administration in relocating the sculpture," Larsen said. Eventu-ally, plantings and lighting will enhance the sculpture area, he added. Turning a Disability into a Possibility," the University Rehabili-tation Center is celebrating its national week, Sept. 13- 19. National Rehabilitation Week honors those dedicated health- care professionals who provide rehabilita-tion care. It also recognizes the more than 43 million Americans with disabilities. James R. Swenson, M. D., chair of Physical Medicine and Rehabilita-tion and medical director of the U of U Rehabilitation Center, established the U's program as a regional leader 27 years ago. The center's goal is the same as it always has been, to provide a high level of patient care, teaching and research activities for the state of Utah and the surrounding intermountain region.
