Optic neuritis has been reportedto occur rarely in many conditions other than bacterial or viral infections, including acute posterior multifocal placoidpigment epitheliopathy, after a bee sting, Behcets disease, birdshot retinochoroidopathy, Creutzfeldt- Jakob disease, cysticercosis, familial Mediterranean fever, Guillain-Barre syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, intraocular nematode infection, presumed histoplasmosis, Reiters syndrome, toxocariasis, toxoplasmosis associatedwith or unassociated with AIDS, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. As is true for optic neuritis associatedwith bacterial or viral infections, some of these cases are isolated, whereas others are associatedwith other evidence of CNS dysfunction
