Common abnormalities in the blood of patients with sarcoidosis include lymphocytopenia, an increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and hyperglobulinemia. Mild eosinophilia also may occur. Disturbances of calcium metabolism occur in patients with sarcoidosis, with some patients developing hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria. It has been suggested that granulomatous tissue and alveolar macrophages produce excess vitaminD inthe form of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3. The increase invitaminD causes increased calcium absorption with resultant hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria
