In latent/manifest latent nystagmus (LMLN), waveforms occur with fast phases that can either cause the target image to fall within (foveating) or outside (defoveating) the foveal area after the saccade. We studied eye movement recordings of human subjects with LMLN in order to determine the role of eye position and velocity in the triggering and size of both types of saccades
